An obituary posted online last week stated that a Kansas woman died from a reaction to the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.
“Jeanie M. Evans, 68, of Effingham, Kansas died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital from a reaction to the COVID vaccine,” the online obituary stated.
Evans died one day after getting her first dose of the vaccine at the Keystone Early Learning Center, news station KSNT reported. When Evans started experiencing an adverse reaction to the vaccine, she was taken by ambulance to Topeka’s Stormont-Vail Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
It was not clear which of the approved COVID-19 vaccines Evans received. She was survived by five children, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, according to her family.
The Stormont-Vail Hospital said in a statement that no cause of death has been determined.
“The individual was transported to our hospital after receiving the vaccine in the region,” a spokesman for the hospital said. “A cause of death has yet to be determined. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family.”
Health officials have repeatedly stressed that they believe the benefits of getting the jab outweigh the risks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has yet to identify any deaths that have resulted from receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.
On March 22, or two days before Evans’ death, the CDC reported that the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) has received 2,216 reports of death among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine.
But only a few of the families left behind by the vaccine victims were willing to share their stories.
Among them was the family of a physical therapist from Indiana, who passed away two days after getting vaccinated against the coronavirus. Haley Link Brinkmeyer, 28, died Jan. 21 at her home in Evansville following her Jan. 19 vaccination. It is not known whether the physical therapist received the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, the two mRNA jabs authorized for emergency use at that time. The Janssen coronavirus jab received authorization for emergency use in late February.
Brinkmeyer’s mother, Shauna O’Neill Link, posted on Facebook: “My 28-year-old daughter took the vaccine on a Tuesday and she was dead by Thursday.” The victim’s mother added that the vaccine was meant for “depopulation.”
Health workers like Brinkmeyer were among the top priorities in the country’s vaccination drive. Some of them shared Brinkmeyer’s fate. (Related: Half of French health workers refuse the Wuhan coronavirus vaccine.)
Kassidi Kurill, a 39-year-old surgical technologist from Ogden, Utah, died four days after getting jabbed with the Moderna vaccine. She received her second dose of the vaccine on Feb. 1. Kurill only experienced a sore arm after she got her first dose of the mRNA jab. She experienced discomfort on Feb. 4 and was admitted to the hospital. Tests found that her liver was not functioning, which necessitated a liver transplant. Kurill died of multiple organ failure on Feb. 5.
Tom Zook, a 60-year-old radiologic technician from Orange County, California, also died four days after his second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech mRNA vaccine. He got his second shot of the vaccine on Jan. 5 at the South Coast Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, California. Zook posted about being fully vaccinated on social media right after getting the shot. Two hours later, he started complaining of abdominal pain and breathing difficulty. He was initially admitted in the same hospital where he worked but was later transferred to a different hospital where he passed away on Jan. 9.
Janet Moore, a 39-year-old nurse aide from Ohio, died within 48 hours after she got immunized using the mRNA vaccine. The nurse aide received the jab after her employer, Admirals Pointe Nursing Home in Huron, reportedly required it. Her neighbors said she had not been feeling well after vaccination, adding that Moore complained of nausea and migraines. She was later found unresponsive in her car outside her apartment complex on the night of Dec. 31 last year.
Gregory Michael, a 56-year-old obstetrician from Miami, Florida, died 16 days after getting the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. He did not experience an immediate reaction after getting inoculated on Dec. 18 last year. But three days later, he noticed red spots on his feet and hands, prompting him to seek medical treatment. Doctors at Miami Beach’s Mount Sinai Medical Center where he worked said Michael developed a rare auto-immune disorder. The condition caused his immune system to attack blood platelets responsible for clotting. Platelet infusions did not work. Michael died of a hemorrhagic stroke on Jan. 3.
