Former Mass. Gov. and 2012 failed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney bashed presidential frontrunner Donald Trump today in a speech delivered to the Hinckley Institute of Politics. Romney boldly called Trump a phony and a fraud who has no intention of building a wall along the U.S.–Mexico border.
“His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University,” said Romney, in what appears to be a desperate attempt invoked by the GOP. “He’s playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat,” he added.
Romney went on to criticize Trump’s proposed foreign policies, saying they “would lead to recession” and “make America and the world less safe,” reports Zero Hedge, which obtained a copy of the speech before it was given.
“He has neither the temperament nor the judgement to be president. And his personal qualities would mean that America would cease to be a shining city on a hill,” Romney said. “A person so untrustworthy and dishonest as Hillary Clinton must not become president. But a Trump nomination enables her victory.”
Romney’s flagrant criticism of Trump is incredibly audacious considering his track record as a so-called “conservative” is extremely poor. Prior to his first run for presidency in 2008, the former Mass. Gov. was pro-abortion, pro-gun-control, pro-tax-increases and pro-gay-marriage, reports AlterNet.
He is also believed to have greatly profited off the 9/11 tragedies due to being a stakeholder in a company designed to purchase debt from insurance companies suffering sizable losses following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center towers, according to The National Memo.
Romney reportedly invested in the company via Golden Gate Capital, a private equity firm launched by one his friends.
He also called for tax cuts for the rich, which were to be paid for by the middle class, and during his time as Mass. Gov., he made it more expensive for families wanting to cremate their loved ones via a state tax hike.
In short, Romney’s done next to nothing for America.
“Mitt Romney is a Republican establishment zombie-bot who only knows how to lose,” said Natural News’ Mike Adams. “He’s done nothing for America and doesn’t have a single clue how to beat the Democrats.”
“Romney calls Trump a fraud, but the entire system Romney represents is a total fraud to begin with. Only an outsider stands any chance of fixing it,” he added.
Romney’s remarks are clearly a last-ditch attempt by the GOP to destroy a candidate they believe can dismantle the stronghold that the establishment has over the American people.
Whether or not Trump is truly anti-establishment remains to be seen; however, his anti-establishment viewpoints are certainly what have propelled him closer to earning the GOP nomination.
“The attempt by the party’s last nominee to take down his presumptive successor is an unprecedented escalation in Republican infighting,” reports Bloomberg.
“The criticism marks the bluntest attempt so far by the Republican establishment to slow Trump’s momentum after his victories on Tuesday in the single biggest day of voting in the Republican race.”
